Xavier A. Mata, D.M.D., M.S. is a Board Certified Periodontist with dual training in Periodontics and Prosthodontics. His passion for dental surgery has led him to limit his practice to Periodontics and Implant Surgery, but his knowledge of prosthodontics affords him a unique perspective with unsurpassed expertise and knowledge in all aspects of implant dentistry. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University and attended Dental School at Boston University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He received his Certificate in Periodontics and completed a prestigious Fellowship in Implant Periodontal Prosthetics at the University Of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. He also completed a Master of Science degree in Oral and Craniofacial Biology at the University of Maryland. He was awarded several honors during his training, including the OKU National Honorary, The American College of Prosthodontists Achievement Award and the Quintessence Award for Academic Excellence.
Dr. Mata is committed to education; he holds a teaching appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland, actively training residents in both Periodontics and Implant Periodontal Prosthetics. He is also a strong advocate of Continuing Education Courses and regularly hosts courses for area doctors and staff; sharing his knowledge, clinical experience and enthusiasm for periodontics and dental implant therapy. The kind consideration he shows his patients is reflected in his participation in voluntary international missions with Operation Smile. Dr. Mata is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Board of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association and Baltimore County Dental Association. He is also fluent in Spanish.
